A learning studio built out of a bookkeeping practice
Keystone Arch Learning Co. started in 2016 in the back room of a Kerrville bookkeeping office, because the same six questions kept arriving from the same overwhelmed business owners.
The short version
Jodie Briganti spent fourteen years keeping books for Hill Country contractors, ranch supply stores and two veterinary practices. The work was steady, but the pattern was frustrating: clients arrived every January with a year of receipts and no idea how the numbers had got that way.
In the spring of 2016 she cleared out the back room on Parrish Avenue, put in six folding tables and ran a Tuesday-evening class for nine clients. Everyone who attended cut their January clean-up bill by more than the class cost. The following term there were twenty-two people on the list, and the bookkeeping practice slowly turned into a school.
Ten years later we run eight programs, employ four part-time instructors who all still work in the fields they teach, and cap every room at twelve seats because that is genuinely the number of people one instructor can keep an eye on.
What we deliberately don't do
- We don't sell recorded-only “courses” with no human attached.
- We don't promise jobs, salaries or income outcomes. Nobody honestly can.
- We don't describe our certificate as a state or federal credential, because it isn't.
- We don't run auto-renewing subscriptions. You pay for a course; the course ends.

Five rules we wrote on the studio wall and have not changed.
Twelve seats, no exceptions
When a class fills we open a waiting list rather than adding a thirteenth chair. Two people have complained about this in ten years. Both later thanked us.
Taught by people still doing the job
Every instructor keeps at least one client book, one payroll run or one retail floor. Teaching from memory goes stale in about eighteen months.
Your files, not demo files
Where confidentiality allows, you work on your own accounts. The point is a working result on the last evening, not a certificate.
Plain prices
One number per course, materials included. Payment plans carry no interest and no fee. We publish the refund terms in full.
Nobody gets left behind quietly
If you go silent for two weeks, someone calls. That single habit is why our completion rate sits above 88 percent.
Local first
We give ten free seats a term to Kerr County residents on a low income, funded from the certificate track. No forms beyond a short conversation.
How the studio grew
Nine students, six folding tables
The first Tuesday bookkeeping class runs in the back room of the practice on Parrish Avenue.
The front room becomes a classroom
We stop taking new bookkeeping clients and convert the whole ground floor. Marcus joins to teach spreadsheets.
Hybrid, out of necessity
Two cameras and a decent microphone let ranch families forty minutes out attend without driving in. We kept it.
The certificate track
Employers kept asking for a single sequence rather than separate courses, so we built the sixteen-week track and the capstone review.
Sliding scale formalised
The returner program moves to income-based tuition, funded internally. Forty-one people have taken a subsidised seat since.
1,400+ alumni
Roughly one in nine adult learners in Kerr County who took a business-skills class last year did it in this building.
What we do outside the classroom
We host a free monthly “Books & Coffee” clinic on the first Saturday, open to anybody in Kerr County whether they have studied with us or not. Bring a question about invoicing, sales tax, or a spreadsheet that has stopped making sense.
We also run two free workshops a year with the local chamber for new business owners, and donate the studio on Sunday afternoons to a literacy group that needed a room with computers.
